The E. G. West Scholarship

The Educare Trust is the only foundation committed to helping the poor to achieve self-reliance through accessing private education.  Professor E. G. West was a renowned British educationalist, who conducted seminal research on private education as a vehicle from helping the poor to help themselves, in Britain , the USA and developing countries.  The Scholarship named in memory of his enduring influence.

Scholarships through voucher scheme:

“The Educare Trust” in Hyderabad primarily initiates this Scheme. The Parents from low-income families wish their children to send to Private schools, though they are aware that they could not afford. Hence, The Trust decided to help them under certain criteria, for this reason they arranged a written test in General knowledge, Maths and English in 2004 for forth class students. Students selected under their performance and their Socio-economic condition is considered. The same students who persue their studies in the same school are given scholarships. The remarkable aspect of this scheme is neither the parents nor the management receive the cash instead the parents are given vouchers. Every month the parents submit the vouchers to the school, in which child is studying. Each voucher is worth of Rs.100. These vouchers will be submitted by the school to the trust in order to cash the voucher in terms of student fees.

This scheme is welcome by the management and the parents are more satisfied with services of the Trust as it reaches the target group without any hindrance.

Parents speak for themselves–some comments from parents currently receiving E.G. West Scholarships

“The Scholarships reduce the burden from my shoulder… My family is grateful to the Educare Trust for funding my child's education”, says Varalaxmi, mother of Girisha, a 10 th Standard student.  Both Varalaxmi and her husband are illiterate, but want the best for their children.  She is a housewife, and her husband an unemployed carpenter.

“This scholarship helps us a lot.  Thanks to the donor”, says Md. Abdul Karim Khan, who works in a binding shop, earning about Rs. 2,000 ($45) per month.  He pays school fees for five of his children, and the scholarship is paid for his youngest daughter, Vahida, who studies in 3 rd Standard.
